" "Youth"

1.

I don’t want to write a defense of Daniel Handler’s Why We Broke Up, which is an affective novel for all its flaws—and is a visual treat too, thanks to the art of Maira Kalman. I can’t seem to reclaim the ease of simply talking about a bo... "

" Really did like this. But all the time I was reading it, I couldn't help thinking about whose wish the book was fulfilling, and the answer—it was fulfilling Al's (and perhaps the author's?) unconscious wish to see the girl who overlooked him punis... "

" Edited review clarification:

*I do NOT judge a book by its author; but I do fault this author for her hateful behavior towards her readers*

My one star rating for this book is solely based on the fact that I did not enjoy this read. It has nothing t... "

The Party Boy's Guide to Dating a Geek by Piper Vaughn

This was cute...more

“I am one man with a laptop. When I give the world my characters, it's because I don't want to keep them for myself. You don't like what I made them do? Fucking tell me I'm wrong! Rewrite the story. Throw in a new plot twist. Make up your own ending.”
J.C. Lillis, How to Repair a Mechanical Heart

Charlaine Harris
“My mouth was dry as cotton and my head hurt like hell. I tried to lift it, and the effort left me shaken and nauseated. I satisfied myself with just shifting my eyes around. I thought of all the books I'd read, all the mysteries. Spencer wouldn't have ended up this way. Neither would Kinsey Milhone. Or Henry O. Or Stephanie Plum, Well, yeah, maybe Stephanie Plum.”
Charlaine Harris, A Fool and His Honey

“You can't stay fucked up forever, can you? You need to start putting yourself out there and getting humiliated like the rest of us. Only then will you be a Real Boy”
J.C. Lillis, How to Repair a Mechanical Heart

Charlotte Stein
“He's fucking stone cold deadpan. His pan is so dead he could lay it in a casket and bury it at Bellevue. They made a movie about him once: Dawn of Ivan's Pan.”
Charlotte Stein, Deep Desires

Alan Bennett
“When they arrived at the palace she had a word with Grant, the young footman in charge, who said it was security and that while ma'am had been in the Lords the sniffer dogs had been round and security had confiscated the book. He though it had probably been exploded.

'Exploded?' said the Queen. 'But it was Anita Brookner.”
Alan Bennett, The Uncommon Reader
